Fixing and Protecting your Roof from Winter Weather

From snowstorms to ice storms, the bitter weather has been relentless this winter.  While some houses were lucky enough to avoid serious damage, others were left with more unfortunate circumstances.  It is important to have any damage assessed and fixed in order to avoid bigger problems in the future.

Analyzing the Damage

During and after the snowstorms you may have noticed water marks forming on certain places in you ceiling.  You might have even had dripping water come through the roof, posing even more troubles and possibly causing more damage.  While you may have been able to remove the snow from the roof, the problems could still be there getting worse.  If possible, try to examine the source of the leak from the attic or other area where you can get an idea of where everything is stemming from.  If the problem is serious, you will want to have a professional take a look.  Serious problems can lead to the collapsing of ceilings or roofs, or extensive rotting that would lead to expensive replacements.

Preventing Future Damage to your Roof

While you might not have had noticeable damage from storms this winter, it can’t hurt to take a look and see if your roof is fully equipped to withstand rough weather in the future.  A professional would be able to assess the strength and durability of your roof, and offer suggestions for how you can best be protected from problems.    Taking proper precautions before anything gets damaged can avoid costly fixes in the future.
